Chronic Pain and Injury

When your car breaks down or stops working properly, you take it to the garage to be mended. Many people even maintain the good working of their car with a regular service.

Do you invest as much in your own body to help keep it well maintained and working properly when you have had an injury or pain?

back massage therapy

Our bodies are wonderfully made with bones, muscles, tendons and ligaments designed to work together to keep us balanced and able to move well.

When a muscle is over-used or strained or an injury causes us to hold a part of our body out of its usual alignment, the body works hard to protect itself and to keep moving. It lays down collagen (strengthening tissues) to help keep the body in the new position.

After a while, the muscle gets tired, the connective tissue (fascia) stops moving freely and knots can form in the muscle fibres causing you pain. The body is no longer moving as it was designed to do and you may also have a reduced range of movement.

How can Advanced Clinical Massage help?

Advanced Clinical Massage uses a combination of the best eastern and western massage techniques to soften and release the tight muscles and fascia. After a session, my clients have noticed a reduction in pain and an improvement in their range of movement.

Clinical massages are outcome based and are tailored to the needs of the individual. Depending on the outcome you desire, you may require between 2 - 6 weekly sessions to achieve the best long term results for you. The massage will include:

Ammafusion - a blend of eastern techniques to balance your body, drawn from disciplines such as acupressure and table shiatsu.

massage treatment

Myofascial Release - a gentle hands-on technique to release the connective tissue which links all parts of the body, helping to restore structural imbalances.

Power Effleurage - to warm, soften and release muscles.

Trigger Point Therapy - Trigger points are points of tenderness in muscles and soft tissue, which may radiate pain. Gentle static pressure is applied to release these knots. I work sensitively within your pain tolerances and in communication with you at all times, so that you feel in control.

Stretching – a variety of stretches will be used to enhance your treatment. You will also be taught stretches to continue at home, to achieve the best results possible.

Clinical Massage can be beneficial for:

  • Headaches
  • Neck/shoulder pain
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Back pain
  • Repetitive Strain Injuries
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Tennis / Golfers Elbow
  • Sciatica / Piriformis Syndrome
  • Foot, leg and knee pain

What to expect?

After a short update on any changes to medical details and progress since the last appointment, I will leave the room whilst you undress down to underwear, depending on which part of the body is treated and then lie down on a thickly padded couch with soft face cradle, draped with towels and a blanket if required. During your massage, only the part of the body being treated is undraped (with your permission) at any one time, so that you feel warm and secure.

Whilst my work usually has a deep effect on your body, I work with your body, using a listening touch - my fingers sink in slowly as your tissues allow me to.

Your first session will be 1 hour and 20 minutes long, including a review of your medical history, treatment received so far and an assessment of your condition. Following appointments will last for 1 hour.

Cost: £40 per hour

Myofascial Release

Gentle myofascial release can be provided to help support people with conditions which do not readily respond to other treatment, such as fibromyalgia, pelvic pain and IBS. For some conditions, shorter sessions may be required at regular intervals.

Myofascial release can also be very helpful to break up adhesions from scar tissue.

Cost: £40 per hour
